Do You Know Your Bible?

ree

For Christians, the Bible is not just a religious book—it is the very Word of God. It teaches us who God is, who we are, how we are saved, and how we are called to live. To know the Bible is to know the voice of our Shepherd. But when believers neglect God’s Word, it opens the door to spiritual confusion, weakness, and even destruction.

  1. The Bible Is Our Foundation

In 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Paul writes:

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

Without Scripture, Christians are unequipped. We lack spiritual depth, wisdom, and the tools necessary to live faithfully in a broken world.

  1. Without the Bible, Truth Is Replaced by Opinion

God tells His people in Hosea 4:6:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you…

A church or Christian who doesn’t know the Word of God becomes vulnerable to lies, cultural trends, and personal feelings that can lead us far from truth.

  1. Ignorance of Scripture Leads to False Teaching

Paul warns about this in Ephesians 4:14:

…so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.”

Without solid grounding in the Bible, even well-meaning Christians can fall for distorted theology and be led astray.

  1. Without Scripture, We Cannot Resist Temptation

Jesus Himself used the Word when facing Satan’s temptations:

But he answered, ‘It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” — Matthew 4:4

If Jesus leaned on Scripture, how much more should we? The Bible is our weapon against sin, doubt, and spiritual attack.

  1. Lack of Biblical Knowledge Weakens Our Witness

James exhorts believers in James 1:22:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

But how can we do the Word if we don’t know it? A shallow grasp of Scripture leads to a shallow faith—one that often blends in with the world instead of standing out for Christ.

Conclusion

A Christian who does not know the Bible is like a traveler without a map, a soldier without a weapon, or a house built on sand. God has given us His Word to guide, strengthen, and transform us. Knowing Scripture is not optional—it is essential.

Let us be a people who, like the psalmist, say:

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” — Psalm 119:11

The Word of God is life, truth, and light. Know it, love it, and live by it.
